Metro area residents who need a lift to the polls on Election Day won’t have to pay for the ride.

The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority announced Friday it will offer free fares all day on Tuesday, Nov. 8 in an effort to make it easier for voters to get to their polls.

The free fares will include RideKC routes in Kansas City, Johnson County, Wyandotte County and Independence. Paratransit services offered by KCATA will also be free.

A RideKC spokeswoman says this is the first time the free fares have been offered on an election day.
