Getting rid of the fat that’s hard to lose can seem impossible for many, even with diet and exercise.

There is a way to permanently remove fat that doesn’t involve surgery.

AesthetiCare Medical Spa in Leawood, Kan., is the only facility in the metro that uses a procedure combining both CoolSculpting plus ZWave.

This is how it works: the CoolSculpting system uses cryotherapy to freeze the fat cells, which then die. The added benefit of ZWave is the acoustic wave technology to help eliminate those dead cells.

“There's no anesthesia," President of AesthetiCare, Matt Taranto, says. "There's very little down time. There's very little discomfort, and the efficacy is absolutely amazing."

Ann Epstein, 48, is having her lower abdomen treated after having three children. She says: “It just kind of feels like someone's squeezing you a little bit, but it's really not bad."

Taranto adds the procedure works best for people who are no more than 20 to 30 pounds overweight.

"CoolSculpting is not weight loss," says Taranto. "This is body sculpting. Now, by killing fat cells, you are going to lose a little bit of weight, but if you come in and you're 100 pounds overweight, you would just not be satisfied with the results, because again it's more about shaping the body."

Some clients experience late onset pain, which can be managed with over-the-counter painkillers.

Prices start at $750 per zone. Clients see best results with two treatments per zone.
