One person has died following an officer-involved shooting in Lee's Summit.

The man was later identified as 34-year-old Jeffery K. Lanahan.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance at the 200 block of northwest Hickory Street at around 12:40 p.m. Sunday. This was Lanahan's home, officers said.

According to police, Lanahan charged out of the front door in the direction of the officer with a large knife in his hand.

In response, the officer fired, striking him in the chest, police said. Lanahan later died at a hospital from his injuries.

Neighbors told 41 Action News that Lanahan was quiet and shy. There was a recent death in his family, according to the neighbors.

They also said they heard two "pops" when the incident happened.

The officer has been placed on routine administrative leave pending investigation.

41 Action News will update this story when more information is released by officials.
