Charges were filed Friday in a property damage case involving a University of Kansas basketball player.

Joshua Jackson, 20 was charged  in the Douglas County District Court with one count of criminal damage to property, less than $1,000, a class B non-person misdemeanor.

The Lawrence Police Department were called to a report of property damage at 545 Wisconsin Street in Lawrence, Kansas.

A woman told officers her vehicle was damaged by a someone she knew and another person she did not recognize.

According to the investigation, the woman was inside of the Yacht Club, a sports bar located at 530 Wisconsin Street, when she threw a drink on a man inside. The friend of the man, later identified as Jackson, followed the woman to her car and started auguring with her. While the woman and Jackson were arguing, her car was damaged, according to officials.

Witnesses told officials that they saw Jackson kick the driver's door and rear taillight.

During the argument, the other unknown man caused damage to the woman's car, investigators said.

The damage to the car was estimated to be $3,150, according to the district attorney's office.

The state requested a summons to be issued for Jackson to appear in court for criminal damage to property less than $1,000, a class A non-person misdemeanor.

In a statement from KU Athletics Bill Self said, "I know Josh has regrets for his actions in this incident. He and I both know he could have exercised better judgment for this avoidable situation, but I'm pleased with how he's accepted responsibility. This does not take away from the fact that he has been a great ambassador for this university. He will learn from this incident and be better for it."

Editor’s note: The Douglas County District Attorney originally listed the charge as a class A non-person misdemeanor in their initial news release, when in fact the correct charge is a class B non-person misdemeanor.
