The city of Lawrence started training city employees this month to identify sex trafficking.

The training consists of a two-hour training session. There are six sessions scheduled.

Most of the employees receiving training are in the city clerk’s office. A majority of the fire and medical department will also be trained.

More city staff will be trained in the future.

The Willow Domestic Violence Center is working with the Lawrence Police Department to conduct the training sessions.

In 2016, Lawrence police handled four cases of human trafficking, according the department’s spokeswoman.

The training sessions will end at the end of this month.
