Royals opening day event raises money for youth

More than 2,500 fans will throw a baseball along at 10 mile route from Kansas City's Union Station to Kauffman Stadium to raise money for the MLB Urban Youth Academy.

"Relay the Way" will be held on April 3, opening day for the Kansas City Royals. They will take on the Mets. 

The relay will end on the pitching mound at Kauffman Stadium before game against the Mets. 

Coveted spots on the relay route, spaced approximately 20 feet apart along the route, are available for a minimum of $30 and can be reserved and purchased online.

Participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt and proceeds will go towards the Kansas City MLB Urban League. 

The facility is expected to break ground at Parade Park near Kansas City's 18th and Vine Jazz District later this year.

This fundraiser dubbed the "Longest Opening Day Pitch" is organized by the Fundraising Committee for the Kansas City MLB Urban Youth Academy in partnership with the Royals and the Great Kansas City Sports Commission and VML.
