UPDATE: The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Sunday that safety Eric Berry has signed his franchise tender.

A reporter for the Chiefs said Berry will return to practice on Monday.

Berry had been pushing off signing his franchise tag and hasn’t been practicing with the Chiefs.

According to nfl.com, Berry’s absence will end before preseason and he will report to the Chief’s facility early next week to sign his tender.

Coach Andy Reid told NBC Sports on Friday that he trusts Berry is taking good care of himself and will be ready to play.

“Eric’s one of our good players and he’s in the business side of it right now,” Reid said. “This is all part of the profession, so I get it. But I also know when he comes in he’s going to be in great shape, he’ll be able to get himself back before the first game and be ready to go because that’s the way he trains in the offseason and the kind of shape he keeps himself in.”

Berry has played in 70 games in six seasons with the Chiefs. He was selected to the Pro-Bowl four times.
He originally entered the NFL as a first-round draft selection, fifth overall pick, of the Chiefs in the 2010 NFL Draft.

He was awarded the Best Comeback Athlete ESPY award.
