The Kauffmann Center for the Performing Arts is going underground.

Starting Friday, "Underground" -- a theatrical performance about Kansas City's role in the Underground Railroad -- takes the stage at the Kauffmann Center.

Performers and organizers said the play highlights not just Black history, but American history.

"It highlights the struggle, the utter destruction it had on slave families," explained Culture House executive director Jeremiah Enna. "But, it also is very hopeful. The ending is one of victory and look at modern day today, and looking at some the of the victories that have been had. It's inspiring as well."

"Underground" takes the stage on Friday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 4 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $20.
