Dirty vehicles across the metro created long lines at the car wash on Sunday. Driving in style is always a plus, but some drivers are worried about road salt from clearing streets of snow and ice rusting away at their car.

"I want my car to last as long as it can, especially if you're paying on it still, because it's the right thing to do to make sure your car doesn't rust out," said Tracie Can of Kansas City.

The owner of Johnson County Automotive, Alan Heriford says he has seen good cars go to waste because of rust.

"If a car frame rusts to the point where it's not capable of holding the structure of the car together, that car is pretty much done," said Heriford.

Heriford says older cars are more likely to rust. Also, if the vehicle has paint chips, it gives salt an opening to cause damage.

He says drivers should get regular car washes to make sure the salt is washed away. Heriford says find a car wash that cleans under the car, as well as the outside.
