KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A four-year-old was killed in a wreck after the driver lost control and hit a tree in Kansas City north Monday.

Officials said the vehicle went off the road just west of Parvin and Prather in Kansas City north. A Mitsubishi SUV was traveling east and passed a Honda van on the left. The Mitsubishi side-swiped the Honda, causing the driver of the Mitsubishi to lose control, strike several trees and overturn near the bottom of a hill.

"It was really loud. Everybody from the neighborhood, they heard that," said Ahmed Hamasoor, who lives near the crash site.

Police said the four-year-old was partially ejected and died a short time later at an area hospital.

After hearing the crash, neighbors rushed outside to help.

"I wish I didn't have to see the little girl. She was just like an angel, laying on the ground," said Aktar Doulat, whose home is only feet from where the SUV landed.

The driver, a 53-year-old KCMO man, was cut out of the car, according to witnesses. He was unresponsive at the scene but is currently listed in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the Honda was not injured.

Editor's note: Officials initially said the child was seven years old but later said the child was four years old. The story has been updated.
