Newsome remembers line dancing workout

For Workout Wednesdays in June, I am revisiting breast cancer related workouts as I celebrate my five-year anniversary as a breast cancer survivor. This week I'm catching up with Garnice "Gee Gee" Robertson.

When I returned to work following breast cancer in 2012, I got a call from Robertson, a line-dance instructor,  inviting me to join a group of breast cancer survivors and other women who were involved in a fun line dancing class. I did and I'm so glad because we have remained friends to this day.

The line dancing was a challenge and slowly but surely I was able to manage a few moves.

Robertson interviewed me in the weeks that followed for a video called, "The Life," she was producing about her experience supporting breast cancer survivors.  The video is now on YouTube.

It celebrates her experience and inspires other women to be screened and do self-exams because early detection saves lives.

Thank you, Robertson, for sharing your experience and being part of the solution.
