KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On this episode of Chew Diligence, Northlander foodies get some good news — Justus Drugstore is coming back!

Well, in a few years.

Cohosts Jill Silva and Lindsay Shively invited chef and owner Jonathan Justus into the 41 Action News podcast studio to talk about some of his more unconventional experiences, and about the future of the beloved restaurant formerly located in Smithville, Missouri.

Also hear the unique thought processes behind the dishes at Black Dirt, Justus’ new restaurant just south of the Country Club Plaza, where he takes the term “locavore” to the next level, serving  “nose-to-tail, root-to-stem, farm-to-table, foraging,” region-specific cuisine, including a Caesar salad with catfish for croutons (yes, catfish).

More not to miss on this episode of Chew Diligence:

  • How to turn tree roots into a chandelier
  • A touching tribute to the man known for his “Gold” standard in food writing
  • A story of revenge — which is apparently served best as a groundhog
