Shawnee Mission East High School holds mattress fundraiser for band programs

Posted

When you think of music and bedtime, a soothing lullaby may come to mind.

Well, forget that. Instead, think brass, woodwinds, drums and the occasional cowbell.

It’s the First Annual Mattress Sale Fundraiser for the band programs at Shawnee Mission East!

No, the student musicians do not have to drag a mattress door-to-door, like the old-fashioned candy sale.

In this case, the school becomes a showroom with brand name mattresses at very competitive prices.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, at Shawnee Mission East High School, snoozing equals marching!

According to Andrew Owings of Custom Fundraising Solutions, this is a growing trend in fundraisers and a successful one.

Owings said the goal is to raise $10,000 to keep the music playing.

Band director, Alex Toepfer, says this group of young people work long and hard to perfect their performances.

The money raised will keep the program healthy and growing.

You can get a good night’s sleep knowing you helped these Musical Lancers bring tunes to the community.

Just be prepared for the sheep you’ll be counting to be marching.
