White elephant gift ideas

Posted

So, you come home from your office Christmas party or neighborhood holiday get-together with bacon-flavored toothpaste or an inflatable unicorn horn or a yodeling pickle.

Blame the King of Siam.

Centuries ago, so the story goes, the King of Siam would give actual, living, breathing white elephants to people with whom he was displeased. The idea was that the cost of upkeep alone would destroy the receiver.

Flash forward to today and the act of giving a seemingly useless, silly present is part of many party traditions.

Now, you won’t necessarily find any of the aforementioned items at the Savers on 95th and Nall, but you can find plenty of stuff that will fit the bill.

The traffic is terrific in the aisles when it comes to finding that oh-so-perfect imperfect gift.

On Wednesday as Savers Super Shopper Ashley Allen was getting things together for our morning visit, people were buying the stuff as quickly as she brought it up to the register.

We had everything from a giant-sized treat container for your hungry pooch to a gorilla TV tray to pink piggy bank.

That piggy bank would come in handy for the money you save…lots of items are in the $10 or less category.

And you are helping local charities like the Boys and Girls Club when you fill your cart at Savers.
