KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City, Missouri, Fire Department is on the scene of a house fire near the location where a homicide happened earlier this week.

The fire started around 8 a.m. at a home at East 68th Street and Monroe Avenue.

17-year-old Treshawn Hawkins was shot and killed on Wednesday at the same cross street.

Police said officers patrolling the area heard gunfire and later found Hawkins shot inside a home.

Police are still investigating the homicide. There is currently no suspect.

Details of the fire are still developing. It is not clear yet if the home on fire is the same home where Hawkins was killed.

KCPD said bomb and arson detectives are working with KCFD to investigate the fire. They are also investigating whether the fire and homicide are connected.

A KCFD spokesperson said that no one was injured in the blaze and they are still trying to determine the cause.

KCPD asks that everyone avoid the area while the investigation is underway.
