1 dead following shooting at E. 68th Street, Monroe Ave.

UPDATE, Jan. 9 | Police have identified the victim as 17-year-old Treshawn Hawkins.

EARLIER | One person is dead following a shooting Wednesday night in Kansas City, Missouri.

The shooting occurred around 7:37 p.m. at East 68th Street and Monroe Avenue. The victim died at the scene.

Sgt. Jake Becchina, public information officer for KCPD, said officers patrolling the area heard the sound of gunfire around 7:30 p.m. and calls began coming into dispatch shortly after. Officers located a teenager, who had been shot, inside a home on the 6800 block of Monroe Avenue.

Becchina said the victim was alone in the house at the time.

This marks the second homicide to occur today. Aman was shot shortly before 1 p.m. near Wheeling Avenue and East 23rd Street and later died.

Becchina said detectives are investigating the possibility that the two homicides are related.

There is no suspect information at this time.
