Campaigns pushing for votes before MO primary

Both Democratic and Republican presidential campaigns worked to energize KC voters in the last day before the Missouri primary.

Volunteers for Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Ted Cruz and Donald Trump continued with door knocks and phone calls on Monday.

Mayor Sly James was joined by former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter at Hillary Clinton’s campaign office.

“We take this election very seriously, We want people to come out and exercise their right to vote and we want them to vote for Hillary Clinton,” Mayor James said.

A Sanders volunteer thinks his candidate will come out on top. “The tide is turning now. Some of the statements, frankly, that Hillary has made were dissembling and the independents realized that."

After a weekend of Republican rallies, including protesters outside Donald Trump’s KC rally Saturday, Jackson County GOP Committee Chair urged supporters to back one of the four republicans.

“As chairman, my push is, I don't care who you vote for just get out there and vote. We have to have a strong showing in Missouri,” said Mark Anthony Jones.

Ohio, Florida, North Carolina and Illinois also vote Tuesday.

Jones said Kasich’s and Rubio’s campaigns pulled out of Missouri to focus efforts elsewhere.

“Phone banks are full steam for at least two of the candidates that we know of,” Jones said. “We definitely have a strong Trump campaign here, we have a strong Cruz campaign here."
