KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two branches of the Mid-Continent Public Library in Independence will be closed until further notice due to a potential COVID-19 exposure, MCPL said Thursday.

The North Independence Branch, located at 317 W. 24 Highway, and the Fairview Neighborhood Branch, located at 18109 E. 12 St. N., are closed.

A staff member tested positive for COVID-19, receiving the results Thursday.

MCPL is notifying customers who were at the two locations between Oct. 26 and Oct. 28.

Any library staff who were potentially exposed will be screened and monitored before they can return to work, MCPL said.

Professional cleaners will sanitize the space.

MCPL is working with the Jackson County, Missouri, Health Department on next steps, the library said.

The North Independence Branch will still be open as a polling place on Election Day, though no library services will be available.
