KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An athletic trainer who worked closely with multiple student-athletes at Park Hill South high school died on Sunday due to COVID-19 complications.

In an email, interim Principal Kerrie Herren said LeAndra Breann Stang was a college student who was also training to be an athletic trainer.

"We are grieving with the family and friends of LeAndra Breann Stang, who died on Sunday from complications of COVID-19," Herren said. "Several in our Park Hill South family, particularly those involved in athletics, knew Bre, who was a college student training to be an athletic trainer. She worked with several of our student athletes."

After learning the woman was sick, the school, "followed our strict guidelines for quarantine in the case of direct exposure, working with the health departments," Herren said.

The school plans to have a moment of silence in Stang's honor at its football game on Friday against St. Joseph Central.
