MARSHALL, Mo. — Conagra is shutting down its Marshall, Missouri plant due to an outbreak of COVID-19 cases with employees.

The company confirmed to 41 Action News 20 employees have tested positive for the virus.

The plant closed Friday, April 17 and will not reopen until April 27. A company spokesperson told 41 Action News they will pay employees during this temporary closure, and they will continue to pay employees who need to be away from work due to a COVID-19 related illness.

The company sent 41 Action News this statement:

"The health and safety of our employees is our top priority. In our Marshall facility, we have been using social distancing techniques, screening temperatures and increased sanitation in the facility to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Unfortunately, approximately 20 employees have been diagnosed with COVID-19 so we have made the decision to suspend operations at the facility until April 27."

The company says when the facility reopens they will continue to use "rigorous" maintenance and sanitation processes to maintain a safe work environment.
