KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Couples across the country are changing wedding plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some couples are postponing, while others moved their wedding dates up to say, "I do," before local courthouses closed.

“We’ve been together for like five years now,” Patty Feng said. “So we were sort of like, we just really wanted to get married. We were excited to do it.”

Roy and Patty Feng told 41 Action News they couldn't wait another minute to be married. The couple's original date was set for May 22, but was moved up months in advance to the Johnson County Courthouse.

Planning a wedding reception for friends and family, Patty Feng said all the progress she made has been left in limbo due to the coronavirus outbreak.

“They just said, you know we understand there’s a pandemic going on, and we’ll reschedule you free of charge, no fees," Roy Feng said.

Vendors are working with most couples and refunding money or making plans to reschedule.

Mariana Rosales and Alex Fries have been planning their wedding for two years and were set to be married on May 23. The ceremony was scheduled at a church with the reception at a second location. Rosales told 41 Action News that the two locations are what has made the rescheduling process difficult.

“Having two separate venues is what is the biggest struggle because we just called today and our reception venue said we have Saturday, August 1, ready to go, but our church already has a wedding on August 1," Rosales said.

Rosales said she's hopeful the pandemic will end soon and is adjusting as best she can.

“I mean, this is something that we couldn’t control,” she said. “So it’s not worth being upset or being overly hysterical or freaking out a lot.”
