KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As Kansas and Missouri progress to new phases of their respective vaccine distribution plans, the advancement is causing some confusion among residents.

Pam Frost, who lives in Kansas City, said she spends hours behind the computer trying to find a place to get vaccinated.

"I've been trying to find out about a vaccine for several weeks since I'm 76 and have some conditions," Frost said.

Becky Manthei said she is also in search of the vaccine.

"I called my doctor and they had no clue how they're going to do it or when they're going to do it," Manthei said.

Last week, Missouri announced its move to Phase 1B - Tier 2, which means those 65 and older and with health conditions that put them at high risk are now eligible to be vaccinated.

Kansas announced it's moving on to Phase 2 of its plan, which opens the vaccine up to a similar group

However, many counties in both states are still vaccinating health care workers and don't have enough supply to forge ahead.

According to both state health departments, those who want to get vaccinated should check with their county's health department.

In most counties, residents can fill out an online form which essentially places them on a waiting list. The counties state it will either call or email people when it's their turn to get vaccinated.

Unfortunately, the responses don't include a timeline.

Both Manthei and Frost said they have signed up.

"I thought, 'OK, that's one step closer to getting the shot, compared to not knowing what to do,'" Manthei said.

People who live in Platte County but reside in Kansas City should fill out the form for Kansas City, Missouri, instead of the county's form.

The 41 Action News Investigative Team checked with each health department across the Kansas City area. According to the website for Johnson County, the survey will not be available until Feb. 1.
