KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Jackson County Detention Center has reported 51 COVID-19 cases, according to Sheriff Darryl Forte.

In an update posted to Twitter Monday afternoon, Forte said there also are 300 inmates in quarantine or precautionary quarantine.

The detention center reported three positive cases in April among inmates, and two months later saw five cases from “non-inmates.”

On September 23, Forte tweeted that nine inmates and six non-inmates had tested positive.

More than 200 inmates will be tested on Tuesday.

In April, 202 inmates were released following a March county executive order to decrease the jail population.
