KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Jackson County Historic Truman Courthouse in Independence is closed due to "several" COVID-19 cases, a county spokesperson said Thursday.

The courthouse, located at 112 W. Lexington Ave., will be closed through Sept. 20 after several employees tested positive for COVID-19.

The spokesperson said the closure would not affect the 16th Circuit Court of County Municipal Court, which operated out of the Eastern Jackson County Courthouse on West Kansas Avenue.

The Assessment, Recorder of Deeds and Collection departments have offices at the Truman courthouse, however, and resident who have business with them should visit the downtown Kansas City courthouse at 415 E. 12th St., or go online to www.jacksongov.org.

Any updates will be posted to the county website and social media platforms, the spokesperson said.
