University of Kansas Health System update

Doctors at the University of Kansas Health System expressed cautious optimism Monday morning after the number of patients they’re treating for COVID-19 fell over the weekend.

Fifty-six patients are being treated for acute COVID-19 infections, 24 of whom are in the intensive care unit. Eighteen of those patients are on ventilators.

Doctors are treating 61 patients in recovery stages of infection. Seven of those are on ventilators.

The doctors were hesitant to tie the decrease to the COVID-19 vaccine rollout.

Kansas City VA Medical Center continues vaccinating veterans

Around 400 veterans received the COVID-19 vaccine at the Kansas City VA Medical Center over the weekend.

KCVA begain distributing its shipment of the Moderna vaccine to high-priority veterans Saturday with 400 appointments scheduled throughout the weekend.

Missouri marked another grim milestone on Christmas Day by setting a new record for the number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19.
