University of Kansas Health System daily briefing
Dr. Steven Stites, the chief medical officer at the University of Kansas Health System, received his COVID-19 vaccine live during Monday's briefing. Doctors also fielded many questions related to the vaccine and its rollout in Kansas.
At the start of the new year, the KU Health System reported 70 patients with active COVID-19 infections. Of those, 28 are in the ICU and 15 are on ventilators. Another 56 patients are in recovery phases of COVID-19, including seven of those patients on ventilators.
Jackson County assistant prosecutor dies of COVID-19
Assistant Jackson County prosecutor JoEllen Engelbart died Saturday of COVID-19 after contracting it around Christmas time. She was pregnant and gave birth on Dec. 29, three months early,. Her newborn remains hospitalized. Friends and coworkers remember her as a fierce advocate.
Edwardsville paramedic dies after contracting COVID-19
An Edwardsville, Kansas, paramedic died after contracting COVID-19 shortly before Christmas. Jason Taylor was with the department for three years and is remembered by coworkers as caring, compassionate and charismatic.
