KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Renaissance Festival in Bonner Springs, Kansas, will not hold its 2020 season because of COVID-19 restrictions.

“We are profoundly disappointed to announce that the 2020 Kansas City Renaissance Festival will not be taking place this year,” the festival said on its website.

While organizers worked over the last five months to develop a plan to hold the festival, it became clear that “state directives will not change significantly in time for the festival to open this fall,” organizers said.

“Although we disagree with the current directives that prevent a spacious outdoor venue from opening, we appreciate the open and cooperative spirit of our discussions and recognize the difficulty of the governmental task,” the festival organizers said, adding that they share the goal “of keeping Kansans safe and healthy.”

The Kansas City Renaissance Festival plans to return in September 2021 for its 44th anniversary. All 2020 tickets will be honored next year.
