KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City St. Patrick's Day Parade has been canceled for the second consecutive year.

The parade was canceled for the first time in its history in 2020 amid the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some COVID-19 cases had already appeared in the Kansas City area and the Big 12 tournament had restricted fan access when organizers made the announcement on March 12 last year.

They are again unable to host the parade in 2021 “given the current state of emergency for KCMO and the COVID caseload," parade co-chair Michelle Kilker confirmed to 41 Action News.

Organizers are hopeful the event will return March 17, 2022, a date posted on the parade website.
