KANSAS CITY, Mo. — More than 2,000 Kansans have died as a result of COVID-19.

With the grim milestone, Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly ordered flags to be flown at half staff throughout the state Monday.

It is the second time since the beginning of the pandemic Kelly has issued the order in honor of those who have died and those they leave behind.

In a statement released Friday, Kelly encouraged Kansans to band together to protect one another.

“While COVID-19 has impacted each Kansas community differently, we all share this collective loss of our family, friends, and neighbors. We can all honor their memory by protecting each other and working together to slow the spread of this virus,” Kelly said.
