KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly said Wednesday her administration plans to release more information later this week about how soon the state could enter the next phase of her reopening plan.

Kansas officially entered phase one of its reopening plan on May 4, with the initial target of May 18 as the earliest possible date the state could advance to phase two of reopening.

During her thrice-weekly news conference Wednesday in Topeka, Kelly said her administration was continuing to monitor reports, including an unpublished report from the White House COVID-19 Task Force showing the Kansas City area as a place to monitor for additional cases.

Kansas Department of Health and Environment Secretary Dr. Lee Norman was also asked about if the state’s COVID-19 data would support advancing to the next phase on May 18, to which Norman said his team is still gathering information, saying they’ll know even more about how to move forward by the end of the week.
