KANSAS CITY, Mo. — KC Water announced they are putting their Keep Out the Rain program on pause due to COVID-19.

The program helps Kansas City residents find and fix prohibited sewer connections.

KC Water cited health and safety concerns as well as financial impacts in their reasoning for suspending the complimentary program.

“This temporary pause allows KC Water to analyze the utility’s financial position and the economic effects of COVID-19 being felt by our ratepayers. The program will resume as soon as it makes sense from a safety and financial perspective," KC Water Smart Sewer Officer, Srini Vallabhaneni said in a release.

The Smart Sewer program is in place to reduce overflows from the sewer systems to create cleaner water in community waterways.
