KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Missouri, Public Schools doesn't want any students to miss a meal, even though they aren't currently allowed to attend school.
During the last three weeks, KCPS has served 65,000 free breakfast and lunches for students since the COVID-19 outbreak forced schools to close last month, according to a press release from the district.
The team dishing up and delivering those meals includes school principals, school staff and other KCPS employees from several departments.
School meals are a necessity for KCPS students, because 100% of the district's students qualify under federal guidelines for free breakfast and lunches, according to the district.
Next week, free meals will be passed out to students from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, April 6, and Wednesday, April 8, at four KCPS high schools:
- East High School, 1924 Van Brunt Blvd.
- Northeast High School, 415 Van Brunt Blvd.
- Central High School, 3221 Indiana Ave.
- African-Centered College Preparatory Academy's Lower Campus, 6410 Swope Parkway
KCPS also delivers meals to families with children who are in a special program for homeless students, those in special education programs and students who have special dietary needs, according to the release.
Families who need the delivery service can e-mail the district at food@kcpublicschools.org.
