KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Lee's Summit Board of Education voted during a special meeting Tuesday night to return many students to in-person learning.

All students in pre-K through sixth grade who chose the in-person learning mode will return to in-person classes five days a week starting Jan. 11, with the exception of pre-K students, who attend four days per week.

Students who opted for the R-7 Online Academy will remain online.

The decision came in a 6-1 vote.

Students in pre-K through third grade were moved to virtual learning after a Nov. 19, 2020, decision by the Board. Students in grades 4 through 12 were moved to virtual learning after a Nov. 17, 2020, decision.

The district said anyone in quarantine or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms are still expected to stay home, per CDC guidance.

Another special meeting will be held on Jan. 14 to discuss a return to in-person learning for grades 7 through 12.
