KANSAS CITY, Mo. — All staff and residents at the Cameron Veterans Home began being tested for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Missouri Veterans Commission Interim Director Ryon Richmond said during a news conference Wednesday that residents of all seven of the state’s veterans home either have been tested or will be tested in the coming weeks.

Testing occurred at the St. Louis site on Tuesday and will take place in Mexico and Cape Girardeau next week. The staff and residents at homes in Mount Vernon, St. James and Warrensburg will be tested “in the coming weeks,” according to Richmond.

The commission, according to Richmond, has been “very proactive” in its response to COVID-19.

When the first COVID-19 case was reported in the state, access was “immediately restricted” to all seven veterans homes and staff was trained in infectious disease protocols, Richmond said.

“Welcomed sentinel testing as another proactive step to protect our veterans and veterans home teams,” Richmond said.
