MO Gov. Mike Parson announces first COVID-19 death in state

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Missouri Gov. Mike Parson announced the first coronavirus-related death in Missouri Wednesday.

The death occurred in Boone County, Missouri.

Parson said the patient’s family called 911 and they were taken to a University of Missouri Health Care hospital.

Columbia, Missouri, Mayor Brian Treece said his condolences are with the family.

He said officials are working to trace and evaluate exposure risk.

First responders who transported the patient were screened as well.

A University of Missouri Health Care official said the protocols in place worked well despite the sad outcome.

He advised those watching the news conference to take COVID-19 seriously and continue social distancing.
