KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An employee of the Overland Park Fire Department has tested positive for COVID-19.

A release from OPFD early Thursday evening said the employee, who serves in an administrative capacity and is not normally responsible for emergency response or dealing with patients, is being treated at an area hospital.

While officials are working to track the source of the infection, a spokesperson said the exposure is believed to be non-work-related.

Officials said two other employees are being tracked and are on self-quarantine at home. Neither employee works in an emergency or medical role.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Overland Park Police Department also has sent home six staffers who had contact with one of the OPFD staff. Those police officers are under self-quarantine.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
