KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Platte County Health Department Board of Trustees voted this week to allow schools to reopen after Labor Day with a hybrid model in place for older students.
At a special meeting on Thursday, the board voted to allow in-person learning for grades pre-K through fifth, while sixth through 12th grades can return under a hybrid model as defined by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The board also asked Health Department Director Mary Jo Vernon to develop gating criteria for schools to use to determine when to move between virtual, hybrid and in-person learning models.
Board members chose to remove themselves from the decision on whether to allow fall sports and extracurricular activities and instead deferred to the Missouri State High School Activities Association, which is giving schools the option to move their falls seasons to the spring.
