The policy calls for masks to be worn in indoor public spaces including retail stores, special events, workplaces, businesses, places of worship, hotels, gyms, childcare facilities, schools or other public facility.
The policy allows those in restaurants to remove the mask during eating or drinking, and allows businesses to refuse service to people who do not comply with the order.
Several exemptions are outlined in the order, including for certain groups of children, people with certain medical conditions and others.
The order will go into effect at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, July 16 and will run indefinitely.
Platte County’s announcement came on the same day as Clay County announced its own mask mandate.
