RAYTOWN, Mo. — Total Office Solutions in Raytown, Missouri, is dealing with a recent theft on top of the coronavirus pandemic.

“My office manager called me and said, 'hey, did you do something with the trailer,' and I said, 'no, I’m in Michigan,' and she said, 'well, it’s gone,'" Total Office Solutions President James Darville Jr. said.

Darville received news early Saturday that surveillance cameras at his business caught thieves stealing a trailer from the parking lot.

“I was surprised and shocked because I’m trying to figure out how they managed to drive off with a trailer that had a trailer lock on the hitch," Darville said.

Darville told 41 Action News his company does IT work and that the cabling inside the trailer at the time of the theft is not worth much money.

The theft came days after Darville had to temporarily close his business and furlough five of his employees due to the pandemic.

“It’s everybody who is suffering and it goes past race, social economics, everybody is suffering because nobody can work," Darville said. "Everything is closed down. So while they may be feeling like they're desperate because of 'X, Y, Z,' well, we’re feeling the same way because of 'A, B and C,' so it’s the same thing," Darville said.

The trailer does not have a company logo on it and is plain white. Darville said the only way to identify it is by the two dents on the front.

The loss of the trailer won't have much of an impact on Darville's business currently; however, in the future, it could prevent him from getting jobs outside of the metro.

“In the short term we’re okay; probably long term if this was the busy part of our season then it would probably have more of an impact. I’m just glad that nobody was hurt, nobody was there and really no other damage was done," Darville said.

Darville is working on ways to replace the trailer. He asks that anyone with information regarding the theft contact the Raytown Police Department.
