KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Turner High School will transition to virtual learning through Thanksgiving, according to the Unified Government of Wyandotte County Public Health Department.

In a letter shared Monday by Turner USD No. 202, the health department said the change is due to the number of COVID-19 cases and “high numbers of cohorts quarantined.”

“This action is necessary to protect others in the community and prevent the virus from spreading further,” the letter stated.

Twenty six students tested positive for the virus, according to the health department, while 30 staff and 130 students currently are in quarantine.

Students will return to partial in-person learning Nov. 30.

Early in October, four students and three staff members at Oak Grove Elementary School tested positive for the virus.

Wyandotte County has reported more than 8,800 COVID-19 cases and 165 deaths since the coronavirus pandemic began in March, according to the 41 Action News COVID-19 case tracker.
