KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Blue Summit woman was charged in a fatal Jackson County shooting that took place Friday, according to the prosecutor's office.

Sarah Devera, 27, was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

The victim of that shooting was identified as Zachary Jewell.

Court records show family members of Jewell were at the Inner City Fire station on Blue Ridge Boulevard when they heard banging on the door around 8:30 p.m.

According to the report from Jackson County Sheriff's deputies, the family said Devera was outside and screamed, "I shot him. I shot him."

Deputies found Jewell outside of Inner City Fire. He had been shot and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Devera was taken into custody around an hour after the shooting, according to the sheriff's office.

Documents state that surveillance video and witnesses place the location of the shooting near the 1800 block Of Tilden Street in Blue Summit, and witnesses said it stemmed from an argument.

Devera told deputies that she shot Jewell because she believed he was going to shoot her, according to the prosecutor's office.

A $50,000 bond was requested for Devera.
