Police released the identity of the young man killed in Westport Saturday.
Derrick Jones was shot and killed near 41st and Mill Street.
One property owner isn't letting the crime impact his thoughts on Westport. He said crime is actually down from years ago.
"It's one thing, out of maybe 100, or 1,000 people who come to Westport," said Tom Platt, who is the chairman for the Heart of Westport Neighborhood Association.
Platt's family has had a stake in Westport since the 1940s.
Platt said the businesses have rallied together to invest in more security and manpower to keep the historic district safe.
“It’s called the Westport Regional Business League," Platt explained.
People on the streets of Westport Monday night didn't seem to be too bothered by the recent violence.
The general consensus - it can happen anywhere.
"There are worse places to go for sure, it’s a little disheartening but won’t keep me from coming back," Said Greg Smith.
"You always have some sort of issue, no matter how you try but it's a great neighborhood, " said Thomas Morrison.
KCPD is still searching for the suspect in Saturday night's homicide.
