KANSAS CITY, Kan. — An improvised explosive device was tossed into a vehicle Sunday morning in the 3100 block of North 61st Street in Kansas City, Kansas.

The KCK Police Department’s Bomb Unit responded at the request of the KCK Fire Department after the incendiary device exploded and caught the vehicle on fire near the Royal Gardens Apartments.

KCK officials requested assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which sent special agent bomb technicians and explosive specialists to investigate.

Evidence collected at the scene will be sent to the ATF Explosive Lab.

Preliminary findings indicate it was an improvised explosive device.
