OLATHE, Kan. -- On Thursday, Ashley Harlan's family returned to the townhouse where the 23-year-old expecting mother was killed.

"We never thought that we would lose Ashley this soon, especially to such a senseless act of violence," Terry Stewart, Harlan's uncle, said.

There are certain details the Olathe Police Department has not released, including the manner of death, regarding the Jan. 30 call to the 1200 block of East Westerfield Place.

"It's very devastating," Nikki Chapman, Harlan's aunt, said.

Although police have received leads, they are looking for the right one.

During a news conference, Harlan's aunts and uncle shared their memories of the young woman who had a rough upbringing.

"She left our home and went into many other foster homes after she left our house. It didn't change our love for her," Jane Stewart, another aunt, said.

Harlan, who 41 Action News has learned was expecting a baby boy, had recently moved back to Olathe to be closer to family.

"She wanted to be a good momma, and she wanted to do the right thing. She had already started collecting things for her nursery and this was something that I think she treasured," Jane Stewart said.

Now Harlan's family grieves without any justice. Police are asking for the public's help.

"They may have a little bit of information that they don't think is important, so they haven't called us, but we want them to call us and let us make that determination," Sgt. Logan Bonney with the Olathe Police Department said.

Harlan's family has established a GoFundMe account to raise money to increase the reward amount for any tips leading to an arrest.

"We know they'll be found," Terry Stewart said. "Eventually people who do this kind of stuff slip up and do something that they shouldn't have done."

If you know anything about Harlan's death, call Olathe Police at 913-782-0720 or the KC Crimestoppers TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
