Independence police search for suspect after a child, 2 men injured in shooting

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Police are searching for a suspect after a 7-year-old girl and two men were injured Friday afternoon in a shooting at an apartment complex near Van Horn High School. 

At 4:30 p.m., Independence police officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex in the 9500 block of E. Winner Road. 

The victims were in a communal hallway in the apartment building when the gunman came in.

Officers found three shooting victims — two adult men and one 7-year-old girl. 

Independence police said the suspect fled before officers arrived. The suspect is a man wearing a white Nike hoodie, a dark-colored mask, red shorts and white shoes. 

The three victims were taken to area hospitals and are in stable condition, according to Independence police.
