KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City, Missouri, man was charged Friday in connection with the deadly shooting of a transgender woman last month, according to court records.

Marcus Lewis, 41, was charged in Jackson County Court with second-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm.

According to court documents, Lewis shot 32-year-old Brooklyn Lindsey on June 25 as the two fought outside a house in the 600 block of Spruce Avenue.

Lindsey, whom neighbors said was a transgender woman, was found on the front porch of the home. Police said her cause of death wasn’t immediately known.

DNA on shell casings at the scene led detectives to Lewis, according to court documents.

A $250,000 cash-only bond was set for Lewis.
