A man has been charged in the death of a college basketball star.
Authorities said Marcus Mondaine, who played for the University of Saint Mary, was shot to death at a residence in the 4000 block of East 56th Terrace shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday morning.
The university released the following statement:
According to officials, the death of Mondaine is Kansas City's 90th homicide of 2016.
On Tuesday, 21-year-old Damon Hammons was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in Mondaine's death.

According to court documents, a witness told police she was in the apartment with the victim and her 1-year-old daughter when Hammons entered the residence and forced his way into the bedroom, where Mondaine was sleeping.
The witness told police Hammons shot the victim once. The woman grabbed her daughter and the suspect pointed his gun and her and her daughter. The suspect fled the scene as the woman called police, according to court documents.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000 cash. Hammons is not yet in custody.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for Mondaine's funeral expenses.
