KC man allegedly steals Mustang for own birthday present

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police say a man carjacked a Ford Mustang Sunday in Brookside because that’s what he wanted for his birthday.

Jackson County Prosecutors late Monday Charged Denzel Bostic, 19, with one count of robbery, one count of armed criminal action, tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest in connection to the carjacking Sunday.

Court documents allege that Bostic and another unknown suspect carjacked a 2006 Ford Mustang from the owner after telling him they would shoot him if he didn't comply.

Early Monday, on Bostic’s 19th birthday, officers spotted the stolen Mustang near 69th and Prospect. Bostic initially fled from police, but the Mustang became stuck in a hill and he was taken into custody.

In an interview with police Bostic told investigators he got the gun after noticing it in a pickup truck in a parking lot, breaking into the truck to steal it.

Bostic later told investigators that he wanted the Mustang because it was his birthday.

Bostic made his first appearance Tuesday in Jackson County Court. He remains in jail on a $100,000 bond.
