KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man and a woman were taken into custody and charged Tuesday in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred late last month inside a Pizza Hut in Kansas City, Kansas, according to authorities.

The Wyandotte County District Attorney's Office said that Lacricia Leak-Myers, 30, and Gary A. Winters, 33, were both charged with first-degree murder and attempted aggravated robbery in the Jan. 28 shooting, which killed 25-year-old Laron Briggs.

KCK police said earlier Tuesday that two people had been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.

Winters previously served time in Kansas for aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.

The shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 28 at the Pizza Hut near 43rd Street and Rainbow Boulevard. Briggs, an employee of the restaurant, was shot and killed during his shift.

Other workers in the restaurant heard the commotion and hid in the freezer, police said.

Police said at the time that the shooting may have stemmed from an attempted armed robbery.

Briggs' family told 41 Action News that he wasn’t supposed to be working the night of the shooting, but was covering for someone else. He also worked full-time at a warehouse.
