KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 19-year-old man was shot on Dec. 28 near East 8th Street and Prospect Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri.

He died on New Year’s Day, becoming another of the city’s record 176 homicides in 2020.

KCPD officers responding to a shooting at that location shortly after 8 p.m. found Abdulbasid Y. Yassin unresponsive and called for an ambulance to take him to the hospital.

Yassin died four days later, around 4 p.m. on Friday, but his death is counted in the 2020 homicide total since the shooting occurred prior to the new year.

Detectives and crime scene technicians processed the scene Dec. 28, but no suspects were taken into custody.

This was the second deadly shooting at that intersection in 2020. A 50-year-old was murdered near East 8th Street and Prospect Avenue on July 13, 2020.

A reward of up to $25,000 is available for information that leads to an arrest in the case. Anyone with information can contact the KCPD Homicide Unit directly at 816-234-5043 or the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers Tips Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
